The city of Milan is close to reaching the European 2030 target of “zero victims on the roads”. This is thanks to the launch of five new IoT devices that concern the safety of crossings, traffic lights and pedestrians, and the control of lay-bys.

These interventions are also part of the Milano Metropolitana Safety Project, a multi-year plan for the protection of road users and the environment.
The five new signage devices
Like the other devices installed as part of the “Milan Metropolitan Safety Project“, The five new signage devices interact with the platform Cloud Titan® by Safety21provided by the Local Police, to ensure that signpost intersections, pedestrian crossings and road strips are effectively monitored, improving road safety and raising awareness of environmental quality.

From Friday 5 August an innovative system for detecting traffic light infractions was activated at the intersection of viale Borromeo and via Adelchi in the SP 199 Baranzate-Sesto San Giovanni in Colmano.
It is a intelligent system to low environmental impact which detects crossings with red lights and provides the police with real-time footage captured by the built-in camera, allowing crimes to be identified and recorded while respecting the privacy of citizens.
Another objective of the “Milano Metropolitana Safety Project” is to combat environmental crimes such asabandonment of waste. Two other video surveillance systems have been installed along the SP 159 a Cortulano. Littering often affects parts of the road network.

The characteristics of these devices
The devices are equipped with a camera active 24 hours a day and a system of “intelligent scene analysis“Which is activated in the event of suspicious activities, recording illegal activities, such as the abandonment of waste, and immediately alerting the competent authorities.
In addition to being a fundamental tool in the fight against crimes against the environment, from the very beginning of the “Milano Metropolitana Safety Project” it was decisive for the production of evidence to support police investigations into other crimes.
To ensure the safety of pedestrians, in the municipalities of Smoothed And Vermezzo a new safety system is in place for unsigned pedestrian crossings. The intelligent system protects pedestrians near dangerous or barely visible pedestrian crossings and uses sensors, cameras, external lighting and a system that warns vehicles in advance of the presence of pedestrians.
The devices are already in use on the roads of Metropolitan Cityprecisely at km 12 + 480 of the SP 14 Rivoltana and at km 14 + 320 of the SP 30 Binasco-Vermezzo.
The switching on of the equipment on the road subject to the intervention provides for a regional geographical communication aimed at informing and raising awareness among the public responsible behavior on the road.
