Suzuki Jimny Convertible Is In China And It’s Awesome

The Suzuki Jimny has always been and will probably forever remain a hilarious off-roader of great capability – in all its past and future forms. We know for sure that the Japanese manufacturer is working on a five-door version of the SUV not for America, but we haven’t heard anything about an open-top variant coming from the factory. Luckily, someone finally made a proper Jimny convertible. Too bad they are from China and not the United States.

Of course, the Jimny is not for sale in the US and there is very little hope that this will change at any time in the future. However, Chinese tuning company YiChe Garage made the Jimny open-top and it’s actually more than what it seems at first. The tuner modified the off-roader to look like a model from the Wey company and its Tank family.

If this is the first time you’ve heard of the Wey, it’s the Chinese automaker, who made headlines last year with the Tank 300 model with design influences from the Ford Bronco, Mercedes-Benz G-Class, and even the Jeep Wrangler. What you see in the video at the top of this page and the gallery above – shared with Motor1.com exclusive – is a smaller Tank 100 effort that doesn’t exist officially.

Essentially a modified Jimny, this Tank 100 has two doors and a design that tries to mirror the Tank 300. Styling highlights should be the LED headlights with daytime running lights in the center and integrated fog lamps. into the bumper. The Tank badge, however, has been replaced with the original logo from the tuning company to avoid copyright issues. Our friends and colleagues at motorcycle taxis driver also told us that the brand name Conscience appears to be a joke based on a Chinese pun.

We forgot to mention the Jimny is not officially available in China. The team that created this project had to import one and spend about $60,000 to accomplish this mission. Another $60,000 was spent on modifications, making it one of the most expensive Jimnys we’ve ever seen. It may be more expensive even with a Brabus G63-like appearance (see related link above).
