Fans of British classic cars may be familiar with the name David Brown Automotive. The UK-based company launched the Aston Martin DB5-themed Speedback GT in 2014, built on the Jaguar XKR. With a price tag of over $700,000, this isn’t what you’d call a working-class machine – it’s the realm of classic Mini. David Brown Automotive is now offering a modern version to buyers in the United States, but it doesn’t come at a working-class price.
Thanks to a new deal with Florida-based importers Bespoke Imports Group, US buyers can now enjoy the Mini Remastered series in all its glory. Of particular interest is the Oselli Edition, featuring a 125-horsepower (93-kilowatt) 1.4-liter engine with a five-speed manual, four-piston front disc brakes, modified suspension, and lots of modern technology such as an infotainment system. with Apple CarPlay / Android Auto. Performance modifications send the Mini spritely to 60 mph in 7.8 seconds, but only 60 are planned for production.
Other Mini Remastered models are largely made to order, taking the classic runabout to a new level of comfort and luxury. The leather-filled cabin is trimmed with wood and aluminum. Modern touchscreen infotainment systems are offered, as are electric windows, locks and a modern climate control system. The original engine was rebuilt and tweaked for a bit more power, connected to either a four-speed automatic transmission or a five-speed manual.
The mix of classic Mini style with modern upgrades doesn’t come cheap. Prices may vary depending on configuration, but according to Detroit BureauMini Remaster models usually retail for around $100,000.
