The Maserati Grecale may be late, but that hasn’t stopped the automaker from debuting its upcoming new model. The new teaser doesn’t show off much of the crossover, but it says its triple-digit top speed will “make your heart pound.” At what speed does this happen? We have to wait until Maserati notifies us on March 22.
That’s when we’ll get a clear understanding of the model’s powertrain as Maserati has been pretty quiet about its new crossover. Rumors point to a model borrowing the powertrain from the similarly sized Alfa Romeo Stelvio. That means the Alfa’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine could power the entry-level Grecale while the twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 from the Stelvio Quadrifoglio could power the more powerful Grecale Trofeo variant. The Stelvio has a top speed of 176 miles per hour (283 kilometers per hour). The four cylinders reach 144 mph (231 kph). Is that fast enough for a Maserati?
The Grecale teaser also shows a bit of the front, but doesn’t reveal much more than what we’ve seen before. Maserati doesn’t use a lot of cladding to distort the sleek crossover design. The iconic slotted grille, rear-swept headlights and curved bodywork are Maserati hallmarks that have been seen for some time. The new crossover will be placed below the Levante in its lineup, giving it an offering in the popular compact luxury crossover segment.
Spy shots have revealed the Grecale’s interior, and it looks sporty and luxurious, especially in the Trofeo trim. The crossover will feature a center-mounted screen below the dashboard for the infotainment system, which is positioned below the clock inside the dashboard. We expect Grecale to feature a digital instrument cluster as well. We’ll know for sure in a month when it’s revealed. Hopefully, we also learn when it will go on sale, although we expect it to arrive for the 2023 model year.
