The Phillip Island GP ends with the victory of Alex Rins’ Suzuki, on the podium Marc Marquez and Pecco Bagnaia. Twist for Fabio Quartararo who ends up on the ground.
Even the Phillip Island GP gives great emotions in his 27 laps of the race. The first real surprise is to see Marc Marquez fighting with the leading group, after having chosen the soft tire at the rear as a typical gamble for those who have nothing to lose. The real twist is the mistake of Fabio Quartararo who first loses positions sliding to the rear, then falls in an attempt to comeback falls to the ground after about ten laps and has to return to the pits.
A hard blow for the reigning champion of the MotoGP who now sees he loses the leadership in the classic and has to chase after Pecco Bagnaia who is now 14 points away. In the group in front, everything changes up to the last corner: the Piedmontese from Ducati seemed to be able to win the week of the season, but on the last lap Alex Rins and Marc Marquez overtake him and Pecco has to settle for the lowest step of the podium.
Historic Suzuki victory
Good performance of the Italians Marco Bezzecchi, Enea Bastianini and Luca Marini who finish the Australian race respectively in fourth, fifth and sixth place. Jorge Martin, Johann Zarco, Aleix Espargarò and Brad Binder close the top 10. The ‘Bez’ confirms “rookie of the year” in the first year in the premier class of the Mooney VR46 Racing Team
Excellent performance of Marc Marquez, at his first podium of the season. The soft tire proved to be a very good choice and demonstrates how the rehabilitation of the right arm is bringing its positive effects: “I felt good, I managed in the early stages, then I struggled a bit with the grip. I tried to win, but Alex Rins did a great lap. Step by step we are growing“.
Joy also in the Suzuki pits, in its last season in MotoGP. Alex Rins gives an almost unexpected victory: “Last time with Suzuki here, I have goosebumps. It’s great to finish with a win, see you again next year at Phillip Island“. A toothy smile also for the team manager Livio Suppo: “We deserve it after a difficult year. We were laughing for next week’s test, but Suzuki doesn’t stop butthe”.
