In the Phillip Island Grand Prix comes the official note from the Mobile Clinic that clarifies its future and Dorna’s decisions.
It was 1977 when Dr. Claudio Costa founded the Mobile Clinic, to offer medical support to the drivers on the track and health care services on the track. Since then, the structure has been increasingly refined, also providing physiotherapy and rehabilitation practices with state-of-the-art technology tools. For some weeks in the paddock of the MotoGP there were rumors of a possible farewell at the end of the championship and now the official note has arrived confirming the sad news.
Dorna has decided not to renew the contract at the Mobile Clinic, taking by surprise the managers of this traveling medical center that leaves the World Championship after 45 years of history and support for pilots. Since 2014 the Dr. Claudio Costa he inherited the project from Dr. Michele Zasa, who has long been informed of the desire to interrupt the services of this purely Italian staff. Apparently Carmelo Ezpeleta has decided to optimize the health service in the paddock entrusting it exclusively to Dr. Angel Charteformer medical director of the World Championship and head of the Spanish group Quiron Salud.
Mobile Clinic, the farewell is now official
During the race weekend at Phillip Island, the official press release signed by the Mobille Clinic and its manager was issued doctor Michele Zasa: “It was a decision that took us by surprise and perhaps we weren’t prepared. How can you be ready to leave something you love so much?“. With a pinch of well-deserved pride, they remember the services offered to the World Championship from the 70s to today and “we want to thank you for the many messages of solidarity we have received in these days“.
This is not the definitive closure of this project, because it will continue to operate in the WorldSBK and in other areas, without excluding that one day he may return to the MotoGP paddock: “From next year, unfortunately, we will no longer be present with the current structure in the World Championship, it is something that obviously saddens me, but at the same time it represents an opportunity to think about the good things done by Dr. Costa“.
The hope is that one day we will see the Clinica Mobile motorhome together with the teams and drivers with whom it will continue to collaborate until the last round in Valencia in November. “With regret, we acknowledge the organization’s willingness to take a different path in a period of transformation … And who knows if, one day, our paths will cross again “.
