2023 Ford Ranger Raptor Outside Of Europe Has Nearly 400 Horsepower

Europeans are used to getting the shorter end of the stick when it comes to power. Tighter emission regulations are forcing automakers to sterilize engines to comply with stricter EU laws. This will become even more difficult to meet once Euro 7 will come into effect later this decade. We complained about the twin-turbo V6 of the 2023 Ford Ranger Raptor being substantially untuned compared to the Explorer ST. That’s not generally true, though.

Outside the EU, the 3.0-liter EcoBoost unit has more of a punch. Ford’s press offices in Australia and South Africa announced the local Ranger Raptor would produce 392 hp (292 kW) and 583 Nm (430 lb-ft) of torque. That’s more than 100 hp and 90 Nm (66 lb-ft) over a Euro-spec truck and is the biggest difference we’ve seen lately.

Not only that, it has an additional 20 Nm (15 lb-ft) of torque compared to the Explorer ST. This could be a sign of what to expect from the Bronco Raptor as Ford says the V6 will be more massaged than the configuration used by the SUV. On a medium-sized truck, full torque will start from 3,500 rpm. When it will finally arrive in the United States, logic tells us that any pickup would benefit from a more powerful EcoBoost engine.

In select markets, Ford will sell an updated Ranger Raptor with a 2.0-liter twin-turbodiesel engine from the previous generation. Technical specifications haven’t been revealed yet, but the four-pot EcoBlue makes 204 hp and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft). Yes, the petrol model does have a lot more torque, but the diesel offers much faster power, from just 1,750 rpm.

Both the new gasoline and the old diesel offer a maximum towing capacity of 2,500 kilograms (5,511 pounds) and work with a ten-speed automatic transmission. Some people wonder if Ford will release the Everest Raptor SUV this time around, but we hear that won’t be the case.

After the Bronco Raptor and Ranger Raptor, a third model carrying the suffix will debut later this year when Blue Oval will release the F-150 Raptor R, complete with a V8 engine to fight the Ram 1500 TRX.
