The perennial lack of parking in the city is the damnation of motorists and motorcyclists. Often, it is impossible to find a parking space and, out of superficiality but above all out of necessity, we tend to choose the most unlikely and risky stops.
In addition to the danger that both you and others can run, never park near the intersection.
The Traffic Laws provides very specific rules in this regard and must be respected. Breaking these rules can be very costly. Find out the details and how much you pay for the infringement.
Never park near the intersection: what the CdS says
Based on art. 3 co. 25 and 26 of the CdS, l‘crossroad (or intersection) can be:
- at staggered levels: consisting of infrastructures (ramps, overpasses, underpasses) that allow the traffic to be sorted between branches of roads located at different levels;
- to satin: a road that intersects another, that is an area common to several roads.
The art. 158 co. 1 letter e) f) of the CdS establishes that stopping (even temporary) and parking are prohibited:
- outside built-up areas, near intersection areas (crossroads);
- in built-up areas, in correspondence with and near the intersection areas less than 5 meters from the extension of the edge closest to the cross carriageway (unless otherwise indicated as the Municipality can authorize a different distance in some cases indicating it with appropriate signs or signals) .
Attention, therefore: outside built-up areas parking near an intersection is always prohibited, while in built-up areas the ban is triggered if the distance from the intersection is less than 5 meters.
Parking near an intersection: the fine is a blow
The art. 158 of the Highway Code also establishes penalties for those who park near an intersection.
There fine expected goes from 41 to 168 euros for two-wheeled motorcycles and mopeds, from 87 to 344 euros for all other vehicles (including cars). It also features the vehicle removal parked.
The penalties are multiplied in proportion to the duration of the infringement: for example, if the vehicle is parked near the intersection for 2 days and is not removed, a double penalty is applied.
The report must report the street (possibly, with house number) where the infringement occurred, while it is not necessary to report the distance between the intersection and the vehicle.
