Volkswagen almost pulled the plug on the Amarok but thanks to its partnership with Ford, the midsize pickup truck has been given new life. The German marque has been teasing the model since December last year, with the latest “near-production sketch” giving us a clear look at its side profile.
Based on that latest teaser and many other previously released sketches, our friends from College have done some work and tried to imagine what Amarok production would look like. Here is an unofficial rendering, preview of the next generation of Amarok.
As mentioned, VW has partnered with Ford for the Amarok, among other things. This means that the upcoming VW pickup will be based on the recently revealed Ford Ranger and the heavily updated T6 platform.
That said, the new Amarok will be 100 millimeters (3.93 inches) longer and more than 40 mm (1.57 inches) wider than the previous model. For comparison, the current model measures 5,254 mm (206.9 inches) long and 1,954 mm (76.9 inches) wide. The new model will also have better ground clearance than the previous model.
In terms of design, Amarok is different from Ranger if we base our judgment on this rendering. The proportions are there, as are the square corners found in the wheel holes and both fascia.
Just like the Ranger, VW will be the Amarok with various engine options depending on the market. A powerful V6 TDI diesel engine is confirmed, while a more powerful Amarok R is said to be under consideration against the upcoming Ranger Raptor.
