Rolls-Royce engineers are still in Germany where work on the updated Rolls-Royce Phantom continues. Our spy photographer caught a test prototype of the ultra-luxury sedan on public roads and upon closer inspection, we found that this is the same test car we saw in January this year. Surprisingly, it now has more camouflage than before.
Previously we saw the car, it only had a little camouflage covering the radiator grille and headlights. This new shot reveals additional concealment has been put in the front fascia and parts of the front fender. The camouflage foil doesn’t seem to hide any significant changes on the front, though it’s too early to say what the final design will look like.

One thing we do know for sure, however, is that the headlights will get new internal graphics. The tightly sealed radiator grille could also get a minor makeover. On the back, there’s also camouflage which is great considering everything looks exactly like the model still on sale. With that in mind, we expect this to be a very minor facelift with very few and minimal visual touches.
As a side note, the Spirit of Ecstasy logo on the front grille is tucked away. All badges around the body remain hidden under black tape, including the one on the self-leveling center cap. We don’t expect any new visual expression for the exterior ornamentation.
Not much new is expected in the engine department either. The 6.75-liter V12 engine with two turbochargers is likely to be carried with almost no changes. Software changes could make it slightly more efficient to meet increasingly stringent emission standards in the European market.
Judging by these new photos, the Phantom will likely get a new model year instead of a traditional facelift. We should know more in the coming months so stay tuned.
