Kia EV9 Spied Previews Upcoming Three-Row Electric Crossover

Posted on

The Kia EV9 will be a three-row electric crossover that will expand the brand’s EV offering into new segments. The example in this spy shot is being developed at the Nürburgring. In addition to the good appearance of the body, there is also a glimpse of the interior.

The EV9 has a similar muscular exterior to the concept vehicle but only with a few more curves. Up front, the headlights include a vertically oriented running light on the outer edge of the nose. The vehicle has a wide rectangular grille, and there is a matching opening in the lower fascia.

The EV9 appears to have simple, unadorned sides, except for a crease along the bottom of the door. While not readily apparent here, the official tantalizing image shows the steeply angled kink where the window lines are integrated into the D-pillar.

At the rear, there is a large hatchback that extends outwards under the windows. The vertical taillight outlines the outer edges. The bumper hides most of the exhaust, but you can see only a few of the pipes emerging from the passenger side.

Two of these photos let us look through the passenger window into the cabin. A low-profile screen is behind the wheel. The other display is on the center console, and appears to have a portrait layout. The production model seems to be missing a rectangular single-spoke steering wheel.

There are no confirmed powertrain details about the EV9 yet. The concept has an approximate range of 300 miles (483 kilometers) and an intended acceleration of up to 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour) in 5.0 to 6.0 seconds. Charging from 10 percent to 80 percent may only take 20 or 30 minutes. Like the EV6, this three-row crossover uses the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) platform.

The production-spec EV9 will be capable of over-the-air software updates and support the brand’s advanced AutoMode driver assistance system. This technology is expected to include features capable of driving vehicles on the highway.
