Range Rover V8 Faces GLE 63, SQ7, Bentayga In Twin-Turbo V8 Drag Race

Powerful SUVs are not limited to American brands. In fact, European SUVs have come a long way from giant off-roaders to today’s heart-wrenching lineup of speed machines. And in this battle, four formidable SUVs from the Old Continent face each other on the drag strip, courtesy of the British carwow.

This is the Land Rover Range Rover against the Audi SQ7, Bentley Bentayga, and Mercedes-AMG GLE 63. The lineup of SUVs here is somewhat diverse, though it’s important to note that all of these SUVs come with twin-turbo V8 engines with fairly similar power output.

Two competitors are from England while the other two are from Germany. However, the Bentley Bentayga shares a platform with the Audi SQ7, including a V8 engine developed by the Volkswagen group. This engine produces more power in the Bentayga.

The Land Rover Range Rover V8 here isn’t the most powerful, but it’s one giant engine. In fact, it weighs 5,534 pounds (2,510 kilograms), which is the heaviest of the four SUVs that meet for this drag race.

Meanwhile, the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 is the most powerful in the fight, producing 604 horsepower (450 kilowatts) and 627 pound-feet (850 Newton-meters) of torque.

Price is irrelevant here, although it’s interesting to point out that the Bentley is the most expensive model at over $200,000.

With all these facts, it seems that the AMG GLE 63 has the most advantage in straight line racing. It’s relatively light and powerful, but can the other SUVs here beat the Merc in real-world contests? Watch the video at the top of this page to find out.
