• This 2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS being auctioned at Bring a Trailer makes us reminisce about our previous encounter with the track star of the 991.2 generation.

• As on the BaT listing, the ’19 GT3 RS we tested and lap at VIR had a naturally aspirated 520-hp flat-six that was unforgettable and handling in other words.

• 911 GT3 RS starting at $190,050 when new in 2019; the current bid is $150,000, and the auction ends on Tuesday, October 12.

I believe good memories are more valuable than money. Unfortunately, I don’t have the money to make such memories by purchasing a six-figure 2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS currently listed on auction site Bring a Trailer, which—like Car and Driver—is part of Hearst Autos. Still, despite my underfunded bank account, my job is here at CD has exposed me to exotics like the 991.2 generation GT3 RS. While such short-lived romances were bittersweet, the priceless memories never left me.

Dressed in white paint, not unlike the one we tested in Southern California a few months ago, the tracktastic 911 on the BaT wasn’t the color I wanted. I like the more flashy shades like the Lizard Green on the ’19 GT3 RS we drove on the Isle of Man. However, I dig retro GT3 RS graphics on the lower body side of the auction car. Compared to the crazy aero bits on the new 992 generation, which we recently sampled at the iconic Silverstone Circuit in the UK, the outgoing model somehow manages to look subdued. That’s fine by me. The soaring rear spoiler, road-hogging hips, cool-looking NACA channel, and center locking wheel on the 2019 version still effectively says, “Get out of the way! I’m chasing lap records.”

While it won’t be a deal breaker, I’m disappointed that this particular GT3 RS doesn’t come with a Weissach package like liposuction. Originally an $18K option, it carries a bunch of lightweight materials (save a claimed 13 pounds). Plus, it keeps some of the carbon fiber panels unpainted and exposed to properly showcase your investment. The Weissach option is also the only way to unlock the magnesium wheels—an additional $13,000 that slashes 25 pounds. At least the GT3 RS on the list has some desirable options which include a larger 23.7 gallon fuel tank for a wider range of travel and a front axle lift system that prevents hitting speed bumps and steep entrances.

So, how does it feel to drive one of the greatest driving cars of all time? For maximum clarity, let’s pull out a few quotes from our hands-on experience both on and off the racetrack.

On the GT3 RS’s naturally aspirated 4.0-liter 4.0-liter flat-six engine that delivers stunning, albeit loud, sound and red lines at a high 9000 rpm: “Hitting that red line leaves unprotected ears. Our golden years will surely consist of many nods during cocktail parties.” –KC Colwell at Lightning Lap 2019

How does this track-oriented machine operate as a daily driver? “Travel quality is decent enough that it doesn’t bother your partner when you’re voluntarily driving for dinner, although pulling 1.24g around the corner can permanently reset their opinion of you.” –Tony Quiroga, driving the 2019 GT3 RS in Southern California

And there are more memories of where it came from. So while I may never own my own Porsche 911 GT3 RS, I was lucky enough to find out how awesome it is. That’s why the example of the two owners on the Bring a Trailer website caught my attention. With only 1900 miles on its odometer, it’s begging to be tracked.
