Summary
Audi has big aspirations in the luxury electric vehicle space, and the e-tron Q4 2022 and Q4 e-tron Sportback The SUV has doubled the size of the company’s EV-centric e-tron lineup. Smaller than Mid-size e-tron SUVthe Q4 sibling sits on a tread similar to a compact Q5 . cross. All versions get a 77.0-kW battery pack and a 295-hp dual motor setup with all-wheel drive. Acceleration is adequate but lacks the power we expect from an EV. The driving range is good, as the battery pack delivers 241 miles per charge. The e-tron Q4 model competes with other compact electric SUVs such as the Tesla Model Ythat Refill Volvo C40and the XC40 Refill but feels more luxurious inside than its competitors.
What’s New for 2022?
The Q4 e-tron and Q4 e-tron Sportback are new models for 2022. They join the larger e-tron SUV and the dashing e-tron GT sedan in Audi’s rapidly growing line of electric vehicles.
Price and Where to Buy
We’ll let you decide if the regular squareback or the swoopier Sportback body style is right for you, but with either one, we’d recommend the Premium Plus trim. This mid-range trim adds a power-operated liftgate, power-adjustable four-way passenger seat, SiriusXM satellite radio, wireless smartphone charging pad, keyless entry, and more.
EV Motor, Power and Performance
With an electric motor driving each axle, the Q4 e-tron and Q4 e-tron Sportback all-wheel drive produce 295 horsepower. The result is a claimed zero to 60 time of 6.2 seconds. It’s not that fast Gasoline-powered Audi Q5 SUV, but still fast compared to other gas-powered compact luxury crossovers. Around town, the Q4’s powertrain feels more than adequate even if its initial boost is dimmer than rival SUVs like the Model Y and XC40. But at higher speeds, such as when crossing the highway, the Q4’s powertrain feels more sluggish. We estimate that it will hit 60 mph in 5.3 seconds, but we haven’t had the chance to bring the e-tron Q4 to our test track just yet. E-tron Q4 road manners are polite; the ride is smooth and the Audi feels nimble thanks to the tight turning radius. We’ll stop calling it fun, because the SUV feels quite heavy in the corners and the steering feels artificial.
Range, Charge and Battery Life
The e-tron Q4’s 77.0-kWh battery pack provides up to 241 miles per charge. It also supports fast charging up to 150-kW and, according to Audi, can be charged from five to 80 percent in just 36 minutes. This is slower charging than the Genesis GV60, which was able to charge to the same level in just 18 minutes.
Real World Fuel Economy and MPGe
Both e-tron 2022 Q4 body styles are rated for 100 MPGe city and 89 MPGe road, which is similar to other luxury branded EV crossovers. Once we can test one on our 75-mph highway route, we can evaluate its real-world efficiency. For more information on the e-tron Q4 fuel economy, visit EPA website.
Interior, Comfort and Cargo
Like other Audi models, the Q4 e-tron cabin is a technological showcase for Audi’s latest and greatest gadgets, but it incorporates some unique features such as a square steering wheel with touch sensitive controls. While the e-tron Q4 concept is featured strictly as a four-seater, the production version offers seating for five. The interior passenger space is almost the same as the gas-powered Q5 but the cargo space is not as spacious.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The Q4 e-tron has the latest version of Audi’s MMI system. A 10.3-inch digital gauge screen is standard, and a large 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen tilts toward the driver for easier access to menus and features. Audi also offers a heads-up display with augmented reality features that can project information such as navigation instructions or driver assistance alerts in the driver’s eye line.
Safety Features and Driver Assistance
The e-tron Q4 model is filled with lots of driver assistance technology features, such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking. For more information on the results of the e-tron Q4 crash test, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) website. Key security features include:
- Standard forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking
- Standard blind-spot monitoring and rear traffic warning
- Available adaptive cruise control
