The updated GMC Sierra Heavy Duty 2024 comes with a new, more luxurious trim level. At the top of the range, there is now Denali Ultimate. It’s also the latest GMC product to get a rugged AT4X model.
The updated Sierra HD received an updated front end that includes new headlamps with bracket-shaped running lights. Each trim has a unique grille look, but these areas generally look bigger and bolder based on the gradation shown in the photos. There are six new body colors: Titanium Rush Metallic, Sterling Metallic, Volcanic Red Tintcoat, Redwood Metallic, Meteorite Metallic and Downpour Metallic.
The updated truck cab also received some tweaks. The newly available 13.4-inch diagonal infotainment screen dominates the center stack. It supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless versions. Buyers can also get a 12.3-inch diagonal digital instrument cluster. GMC claims there are “more premium materials” for the interior.
The Sierra Heavy Duty 2024 powertrain options are the same as the recently introduced Chevrolet Silverado HD. The 6.6-liter Duramax V8 turbodiesel has been upgraded to produce 470 horsepower (346 kilowatts) and 975 pound-feet (1,322 Newton-meters). Another option is a 6.6-liter petrol-fueled V8 that produces 401 hp (299 kW) and 464 lb-ft (629 Nm). Both engines are connected to an Allison 10-speed automatic gearbox. Rear-wheel and four-wheel drive configurations are available.
The 2500HD can tow up to 22,500 pounds, which is an increase of 4,000 pounds, and the 3500HD can carry up to 36,000 pounds.
GMC makes the updated Sierra HD a more capable towing engine. The latest version of the Transparent Trailer View system now works with gooseneck and fifth wheel trailers. In addition, Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert can monitor the area around the trailer. Integrated scales monitor whether trucks and trailers exceed the gross combined weight rating. Improved adaptive cruise control works on the pull taking into account additional drag and increased braking distance.
You can identify the new Denali Ultimate by the Vader’s dark chrome exterior trim. This car uses 20-inch wheels that combine engine finishes and high-gloss accents. The truck is also equipped with a six-way MultiPro Tailgate and a power side ladder. The unique badge shows the topography of Mount Denali.
Inside, the Denali Ultimate has full grain leather upholstery in an exclusive Alpine Umber color trim, and there’s dark Paldao wood trim around the cabin. The headliner, visor and parts of the A and B pillars are microsuede.
Amenities on the range-topping truck include 16-way adjustable power and massage front seats. Stereo is a 12-speaker setup from Bose. Other features include rear-view mirrors, a 15-inch head-up display, and a power sunroof.
The updated GMC Sierra HD 2024 begins shipping in the first quarter of 2023. The AT4X joins the lineup later in 2023. No pricing available at this time.
