Tag Heuer Honors 50 Years of Carrera RS 2.7 With Limited Watch

Porsche introduced the 911 Carrera RS 2.7 at the Paris Motor Show in October 1972. The nameplate is one of the most significant Porsches of all time. This was the first 911 to bear the name RS, which stands for Rennsport or racing in German. It was also the first 911 to carry the Carrera name and the first series production model with front and rear spoilers, earning the nickname “ducktail”. The RS was also intended to be a homologated model and was the fastest German production car of its time.

To celebrate the landmark introduction of the Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7, luxury watchmaker Tag Heuer is introducing a limited pair of Carrera watches – a tribute to the car that changed the world of racing.

The Ducktail 911 comes in 27 vibrant colors that are in line with the heady ’70s theme. To reflect this, the special edition Tag Heuer Carrera watch comes in two colors – the iconic Grand Prix White paired with red or blue accents. The two-tone aesthetic of this car inspired the Tag Heuer homage timepiece.

Both watches are special versions of the Tag Heuer Carrera 42mm chronograph. It features the company’s most advanced movement, the in-house manufactured Heuer 02 Caliber. The rear features movement through the sapphire crystal case, with an oscillating mass adjusted to represent the Porsche steering wheel.

The blue version comes with a polished steel case, as well as Rhodium plated index, hour and minute hands. The dial is in a subtle white opaline, while the package is complemented by a textile strap with a signature color stripe. Meanwhile, the red version of the case comes in 18 carat 5N rose gold, as well as the crown, pusher, and case back. The strap, on the other hand, is a red alligator strap, finished with a rose gold pin buckle.

The Tag Heuer Carrera x Porsche RS 2.7 Limited Edition tribute watch is priced differently. The blue version comes with a $7,750 price tag and is already sold out at the time of this writing. The red version is priced at $23,550.
