It’s only a matter of time before Mercedes-Benz launches the next-generation E-Class. Internally known as W214, there’s a good chance it will premiere before the end of the year. That’s based on the first batch of spy photos in which the car uses its headlights and taillights.
This time, the test car sported a little less camouflage. Not only that, there are two versions that can be seen traveling around the Arctic Circle. One appears to be a higher-spec model, while the other may be a more basic version. The clue is on the doorknob.

Last time it came out, the E-Class had flat doorknobs similar to the S-Class. The car still shows up in this video, but other testers have a sticking grip. This indicates that the pop-out door pull is an optional addition.
The video also gives a better look at the sides of the car. Looking past the swirling camouflage, we noticed some gentle brushing on the underside of the door. Another part of the clip hints at turbodiesel power after the car turns its wheels and puts out a hard spin.
What else can we expect from the E-Class 2023? The shape of the car hints at an evolutionary redesign that follows the look of the S-Class and C-Class. However, Mercedes-Benz is generally careful about changing the look of its best-selling vehicles. The interior may be similar to the S-Class in terms of the large screen and digital display. Infotainment is sure to get a significant software upgrade too.
The engine will likely be a mixture of gas turbo mild hybrid and diesel plus plug-in hybrid options. There are also reports that the AMG version will drop the V8 in favor of a powered, electrified 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. In contrast, the turbocharged inline-six will remain the same per source.
