Dacia Spring Replacement Officially Announced For 2024 Launch

In a press conference held this morning, the Renault Group detailed its financial results for 2021 as it returns to profitability after two years of losses. In addition, the French automotive conglomerate released a preview of a new concept car powered by a hydrogen combustion engine that will be launched in May.

It does more than that as it also outlines its EV roadmap to 2025. We’ll catch up and focus on 2024, which is looking a bit hectic. No fewer than four electric models with the Renault badge will come out that year, including revivals of the iconic R4 and R5, another Renault EV, and a van. It’s tempting, that the Alpine with the rear wing will serve as a hot hatch version of the reborn Renault 5.

More important for those interested in affordable electric mobility is the Dacia EV also coming in 2024. It is destined to replace the popular spring aka Europe’s cheapest new car without a combustion engine. Small EVs imported from China have already garnered 46,000 orders.

During the conference, Renault CEO Luca de Meo revealed that the new electric Dacia will use the CMF-A platform. At just 3,734 millimeters (147 inches), the current Spring fits into the European A-segment. The successor should have more or less the same proportions as the R5 will use the CMF-B architecture for the larger car (segment B).

New EVs from Renault, Alpine and Dacia will join the Nissan Micra successor. Teased at the end of last month, Japan’s zero-emissions B-segment hatch will be assembled by Renault in France and could switch to a different moniker. The newcomer is part of a larger plan being worked on by the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance, with 35 EVs due by the end of the decade.

PS: The electric Alpine coming in 2025 is a GT-X Over compact crossover that will be built at Dieppe on the same platform as the Megane E-Tech and Nissan Ariya.
