Porsche is one of the automakers putting their upcoming new product to the most stringent pre-production tests and seeing a convertible near the Arctic Circle should come as no surprise. This isn’t the first time our spies have caught a facelifted 911 Cabriolet prototype to be evaluated in Sweden, but it’s a different test car than the one seen earlier this month.
You don’t have to be an auto expert to see that Porsche will modify the front fascia of the open-top 911 (992 generation). The openings in the bumper will receive a new shape and there may be further adjustments to the center where the radar cluster is located. Temporary lights on either side of the bumper also hint at tweaks that the company isn’t ready to reveal in full yet.

The back is a little more difficult to observe because there is a lot of snow covering the fascia. However, it seems that there is a new position for the exhaust pipe which is now close to each other in the middle of the rear diffuser. This could be indicative of a tweak under the hood and perhaps a big surprise in the plans.
According to unconfirmed information, the facelifted 911 Cabrio could return to naturally aspirated power with a 4.0-liter engine replacing the current 3.0-liter twin-turbo unit. We’d really like to know if this is true but nothing is official from Porsche yet. However, this new exhaust pipe layout could be a strong hint of a significant change under the hood.
This may just be the start of the testing procedure for the facelifted 992 family, meaning a full debut likely won’t come until late 2022 or early next year. Stay tuned for more spy shots of all versions of the 911 and keep your eyes wide open for the potential return of the NA engine at the rear.
