The Toyota RAV4 gets a little tougher in Japan with the newly launched Offroad Package II. It is somewhat similar to the RAV4 TRD Off-Road available in the United States but with additional powertrain and color options.
The Offroad Package II gives the Japanese market RAV4 a 0.39-inch (10-millimeter) suspension lift. It also completes the crossover with a set of 18-inch wheels in matte black and 225/60 all-terrain tires.

Toyota added a textured trim to the body, and named this color for the Gori Gori Black cut. With a choice of monotonous paint, this trim appears on the lower front fascia, wheel wells, mirror caps, side sills, and rear bumper. Choosing a two-tone body color adds this accent to the top of the nose.
Monotonously, the Offroad Package II is available in Super White II, Gray Metallic, and Attitude Black Mica colors. The two-tone options are Attitude Black Mica and Urban Khaki or Attitude Black Mica and Grayish Blue.
Inside, this model gets red and black accents. The seats have perforated synthetic leather seats.
The RAV4 with Offroad Package II is available with two engines in Japan. There’s a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 169 horsepower (126 kilowatts) and 153 pound-feet (207 Newton-meters) of torque. Another option is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid engine. Toyota Japan market specification sheet does not list the total system output, but this setting produces 219 hp (163 kW) in the US.
The Offroad II package with the 2.0-liter engine costs 3,884,000 yen ($26,845 at current exchange rates). The 2.5-liter hybrid costs 4,503,000 yen ($31,119).
Outside of the Offroad II Package, Toyota has had a few minor updates to its other RAV4 lineup in Japan. This suite of safety technologies gains a pre-collision system that can now detect vehicles when turning right at intersections and pedestrians crossing the road when turning right or left. Vehicles with 10.5-inch infotainment screens now have an in-vehicle Wi-Fi hotspot. In addition, the digital rearview mirror now has a recording function.
If you’re looking for a tough RAV4 in the US, there are the newer TRD Off-Road and Hybrid Woodland Edition models. The latter model features a built-in 120 volt inverter that can run household items while off the grid. It also has TRD-tuned suspension.
