Dodge Hornet Crossover Allegedly Leaked, Could Be Rebadged Alfa Tonale

The all-new Alfa Romeo Tonale was only revealed recently, on February 8. Rumors of a new little crossover from Dodge called the Hornet first surfaced in June 2021. The last we heard about the Hornet was back in August, when a new rumor said it would be built alongside the Tonale.

Now, a pair of photos allegedly showing wasps have been uncovered, albeit in small portions. If these images are indeed Dodge’s new small SUV, there’s probably more than just a generic platform underneath. A video was reportedly posted to Alfa Romeo’s Facebook group that purports to show footage from Alfa’s factory in Pomigliano d’Arco. Video is no longer available, but some screenshots persist in the forums at autopareri.com and finally into social media.

One image shows the very red front of the SUV with a resemblance to the new Tonale. The hood is different, and there are changes to the front fascia and headlights, but the proportions seem to match. Replacing the fascia and headlights on the same platform is no big deal.

The second image captures the interior, and this is where things get a little more interesting. The dashboard section is still under cover, but what it looks like looks pretty similar to the Tonale layout. The center console and center stack match, as does the steering wheel but with one exception – the Dodge badge replaces the Alfa Romeo badge on the airbags.

We previously reported that the Hornet will likely share the Tonale platform and plug-in hybrid setup. A turbocharged 2.0-liter engine is rumored to be used for the Dodge, but we haven’t heard anything about other possible combinations or trims, such as the RT version. Considering the similarities seen here, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that the Tonale and Hornet could be true clones, with Dodge targeting lower-priced competition versus the Alfa’s luxury crowd.

With the Tonale now official, we’ll see something in the Hornet later this year.
