2023 Volkswagen Amarok Teased Again In “Near Production” Sketches

The teaser train continues for the next-generation Volkswagen Amarok. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles released a small selection of sketches back in January, and now we’ve got a few more showing the pickup truck from the side and rear.

This is still not the final form of the long-awaited and teased truck. VW calls this an “almost production sketch” that offers a clear front-to-back look of the Amarok. It’s safe to assume that the exaggerated fender bends won’t be as aggressive as the ones we see here, and the thin, low-profile tires certainly aren’t a match for an off-roader with Ford Ranger DNA. However, the teaser offers a general idea of what to expect.

“We emphasize the distinct, expressive front design of our pickup with the charismatic Amarok signature also found in the very large lettering on the cargo box at the rear and which Amarok is very proud of,” said Albert-Johann Kirzinger, Volkswagen Commercial. Head of vehicle design. “The styling bar as a visual extension of the double cabin in the cargo box once again gives the Amarok body dynamic, aerodynamic and very strong proportions.”

We already know that the new truck will be slightly larger than the previous model. It will also pack a V6 TDI engine, and with Ford’s T6 platform underneath, it could feature four-cylinder turbocharged power for different markets. Along with the new sketch, the latest teaser promises a number of driver-assist technologies that VW says are new for the mid-truck segment, though details about those features are left to the imagination. We were also told that the new Amarok isn’t just bigger in terms of size. It will offer more ground clearance than the previous generation truck as well.

The VW Amarok 2023 will be offered in global markets, though don’t expect it to reach America when it debuts later this year.
