Renderings of Renault Espace Imagine a Big SUV Based on Latest Spy Shots

The Espace has been a major member of the Renault lineup since the 80s as a large MPV or minivan. However, it seems that the next version will go through a body transformation – that is if the reports are true.

In a recent sighting, a larger version of the Renault Austral was caught while the driver was having lunch in Spain. The spotted prototype, which wore a thick covering, had a larger body to accommodate the third row. This is believed to be the next Espace, and our friends from College imagine what it would be without camouflage.

If this looks familiar, well, it’s because the rendering is basically the new Renault Austral but with the rear end enlarged to match the spy shots. It works, in our opinion, like the relationship between the Peugeot 3008 and 5008.

The end of the Espace minivan and the arrival of the large Espace SUV are not confirmed at this time. Reports supporting the speculation go back several years, notably with Reuters citing sources inside Renault. According to the report, Espace and Amulet are both living on their deathbeds. Talisman already ended production earlier this year to make way for SUVs, so we wouldn’t be surprised if the Espace would follow suit.

If the Espace is indeed going to be a big SUV based on the Austral, we’d expect the same setup as the compact crossover. Of note, the Austral comes with a mild hybrid and full-hybrid petrol engine, with up to 200 horsepower and a choice between a six-speed manual transmission or an X-Tronic automatic.

With the Espace supposedly already using its production body, we can see the new model at the Paris Motor Show. Otherwise, debuting in early 2023 should make sense.
