The first season in Valentino Rossi’s GT WCE ends at Montmelò. But the Tavullia champion has no desire to stop.
Valentino Rossi runs the last stage of the Fanatec GT WCE in Catalunya, his first real experience with four wheels. Twice in 5th place as best result, he attempts the assault on the podium in the last round at Montmelò, a track that he knows like the back of his pocket after decades in the World Championship. He will share the cockpit of the Audi R8 GT3 with Frederic Vervisch and Nico Muller for the final endurance race.
From next week it will be time to plan his future with the Belgian team Wrt which will pass from Audi to BMW. The certainty is that the 43 year old from Tavullia wants to repeat itself in the GT WCE also in the 2023 season: “I had a lot of fun and I want to be more competitive“. But for the dream of the famous Le Mans endurance race he will have to wait a little longer: “The program for 2023 does not yet include the 24 Hours of Le Mans. I hope that if all goes well I will be able to participate in 2024, this is the goal“.
Valentino Rossi non stop… even in winter
There are not only four wheels in the agenda of Valentino Rossi, team owner of the Mooney VR46 Racing Team. In Valencia he could visit his Academy boys, perhaps with Pecco Bagnaia fighting for the conquest of the world title. In the fight sees the three big Fabio Quartararo, Pecco Bagnaia and Aleix Espargarò: “It’s hard, because Pecco is perhaps faster, but Quartararo is never wrong – observed the nine-time world champion at ‘Mundo Deportivo’ -. He never stopped following the championship of MotoGP, it could not be otherwise for the legend who has lived that paddock for 26 years. Just as he never stops chasing ambitious goals, following emotions, seeking adrenaline injections, without ever stopping. He ends his first year in the Fanatec GT WCE at Montmelò, but he already has another commitment in mind with the four wheels: “I will also do the 12 Hours of the Gulf, I have already participated in 2019 and 2020 and I had a lot of fun. But I don’t know if it will be possible. We need to understand with the team and organize the races or look for other races thinking about next year“.
The certainty is that Valentino Rossi it will never stray from the track. It is impossible to forget almost three decades of glory and success, of rivers of ink and years of TV to follow her exploits. “I miss MotoGP a lot, of course, because it has been my life for almost 30 years. When I watch the races obviously it’s not the same thing, but I still feel the adrenaline because I have my brother on the track“.
