Finally, the legendary M1 now has a successor in the form of an SUV called the BMW XM. While the XM plug-in hybrid high-rider is far from being the M1’s wedge coupe body style, it’s still a standalone BMW M model that aims to represent the direction the performance company is headed.
Since the debut of the production-spec BMW XM, criticism has been leveled at its somewhat polarizing design. It’s not like an existing BMW, mind you. Marouane Bembli, also known as TheSketchMonkey on YouTube, admits that he likes the overall design but that doesn’t stop him from doing what he does best: give it a change.

He loved the rear of the XM so much that adjustments were made exclusively to the front appearance of the latest BMW M vehicles. Bembli said that the lower bumper was a bit too compact, so he simplified it and aligned it with other existing BMWs. He’s also shrunk his kidneys even though the production version is already smaller than the cute big grille of the BMW XM Concept.
On the side, Bembli removed the graphic and replaced it with a different body line that runs under the greenhouse. The bottom has been resized as well, but that doesn’t help much.
The resulting render is a cleaner look on the BMW XM. While the box form factor is still there, it is now more in tune with the current designs you see in other BMWs. Whether this works or now is completely up to you.
So what do you think? Is this redesign working for better or for worse? Do you like this better than the one launched in the showroom? As always, let us know what you think in the comments section below.
