See Change Side by Side

The BMW Z4 2023 went on sale in the United States in November this year and if you are considering buying one, you should probably know what the difference is between the updated model and the pre-facelifted version. Not much has changed, although this roadster features some important visual changes that will keep it fresh for the next two or three years on the market. The Z4 could be discontinued after 2025 but for now, the Z4 comes in a revised and more attractive form.

We’ve prepared a quick visual comparison between the 2023 Z4 and its predecessor so you can see the changes in detail. In all of the examples below, the new Z4 is on the left, and the previous model is on the right.

The front fascia is where most of the visual adjustments can be seen. The headlights were carried without modification but almost everything else was changed. The grid now has a new hexagonal pattern, which makes it look bigger, even though its size has not changed. The position of the fog lamps has also not changed, even though the shape is new. The additional headlights are now surrounded by a different-looking bezel. Making its debut for the 2023 model year are the M Shadowline headlights, which come as an option for the optional adaptive LED headlights.

Changes at the rear are minimal. The overall layout carries but the bottom of the bumper where the exhaust pipe is integrated is now finished in gloss black. Prior to the facelift, these areas were finished in the same hue as the body depending on the grade. The taillights and exhaust are not modified.

The 2023 Z4 is a mid-cycle refresh for the roadster, meaning the side profile hasn’t changed. There are new exterior colors and wheel designs and finishes, but give the vehicle a fresher look. New paints include Thundernight metallic, Portimao Blue metallic, and Skyscraper Gray metallic, which are part of the Z4 color range for the first time. There’s also a new set of optional 19-inch M wheels.

BMW has kept changes in the cabin to a minimum. The interior gets new material and color options depending on the trim level. In the United States, the new standard M Sport package for the Z4 sDrive30i comes with sport seats, M leather steering wheel, M pedals and footrests, and a SensaTec leather-covered dashboard, as seen in the left photo above.
